Independencen Walk & Freedom Ride was organized by Borneo Heritage Foundation and were supported by various NGOs & Organizations. This event was held in Telung Usan Hotel Kuching Sarawak and the walk start at the Hotel and finish at Padang Merdeka Kuching, in front of the Merdeka Plaza.
This event was held is to remember the Sarawak 50th Independence Day which was gained from the British on 22nd July 1963 and NOT FROM/IN MALAYSIA. Sarawak together with North Borneo (Sabah), Singapore and Federation of Malaya formed the Federation of Malaysia on 16th September 1963. Sarawak is NOT THE 13th state in Malaysia but is an Equal Partner with Sabah (North Borneo), Singapore (were kicked out by Malaya on 9th August 1965) and Malaya. No MALAYSIA without the participation of the Borneo States.
So, the Independence Walk and Freedom Ride was to spread the awareness that Sarawak already had their Independence since 22nd July 1963 which already 50th Year and yet the young generation of Sarawak NEVER BEEN TAUGHT ABOUT THEIR OWN STATE INDEPENDENCE. Most of the young generation of Sarawak (Sabah) were taugth that 31st August 1957 is their Independence Day which is TOTALLY WRONG! That was the Federation of Malaya Independence Day.
May the History reveal and spread so that many people will get the fact about this matter.
